ANTONIO DIAS / IMAGE + MIRAGE is the publication accompanying the exhibition of the same name presented at Gomide&Co, in São Paulo, in collaboration with Sprovieri, London. The volume brings together a group of paintings produced by Antonio Dias during his early years of exile in Milan, between 1968 and 1971—a decisive period in the artist’s career—along with complementary documentation from the Antonio Dias Archive at the Instituto de Arte Contemporânea (IAC).

Among the works reproduced are paintings presented in Dias’s first solo exhibition at the former Studio Marconi in Milan in 1969, most of them preserved by Gió Marconi. The publication also accompanies and documents the exhibitions ANTONIO DIAS: THE ILLUSTRATION OF ART, 1969–1971, presented by Sprovieri in London (2025), and ANTONIO DIAS / IMAGE + MIRAGE, presented by Gomide&Co in São Paulo (2026).

Organized and edited by Gustavo Motta—art critic and professor at the Instituto de Artes of the Universidade Estadual Paulista (UNESP), as well as the organizer of the exhibition at Gomide&Co—the book continues the author’s research based on Antonio Dias’s archive, deepening the study of a central moment in the artist’s production and his contribution to the international debate surrounding painting and conceptual art in the late 1960s.
